Day's real name and true identity
Day's real name is Sukiyuu Akimura. Her father is Tenko Akimura.
Day's Profile and History

There was a scientist who wanted to create the ultimate soldier for the Military, one that could not be killed, using a new breed of nanotechnology. He experimented on live human volunteers; however, most of his subjects either died or suffered extensive brain damage. He was getting desperate, and worried that the ultra-conservative army bureaucracy would kill him as time went on. Completely out of options, he decided to perform the experiment on his 12-year-old daughter Sukiyuu.
As the process was under way, Tenko's worst fears came to pass: a platoon of soldiers raided his compound and shot him, under orders from higher-ups fed up with the lack of progress. Sukiyuu, naked and afraid, emerged from the capsule as the world's first successful nano-probe organism...only to see her father's dead body riddled with bullet holes and laying in a pool of blood, the compound overrun by masked soldiers. Driven nearly insane with grief and fear, she became a raging berserker, the nanoprobes having sensed danger and sent her into a trance-like frenzy. She proved herself completely immune to automatic weapon fire and ripped most of the soldiers apart limb from limb with her bare hands, collapsing into unconsciousness afterwards from terror and exhaustion.
The few surviving soldiers managed to bring the unconscious Sukiyuu back to base, whereupon she was immediately placed in a biohazard containment cell and declared an enemy of the state by the government. A control collar and chains were placed around her, and she was completely sealed off from the outside world and denied sunlight, which further weakened her. Unaware of her own latent powers, she was at the mercy of the sadistic warden and guards. Having been declared an enemy of the state, she had no legal recourse and no chance to speak with an attorney. Her existence was declared classified information of the highest caliber; to the outside world, both Tenko and Sukiyuu were dead and gone.
Note: Day's hair was originally black when she was just "Sukiyuu". Her eyes were also brown, not the predatory yellow that they became after her transformation. These are a few of the more minor side effects of nano-probe restructuring.
The Horrors of Military Prison
Day was declared a state secret by the ultra-conservative government. Imprisoned in a solitary confinement cell, Sukiyuu was watched by no fewer than two guards at all times. The sadistic warden and guards would hit her with rifle butts or worse for the slightest non-compliance, and she was subject to cruel medical experiments to determine what had enabled her to survive the treatment which had killed or incapacitated so many others. She was given a cursory education by an awful tutor and achieved a high school equivalency diploma from Blight Military Academy; later in life she would pursue bachelor and graduate degrees in law.
Day's release from Military Prison
As sometimes happens, a more liberal government came to power...
The new Prime Minister declassified Sukiyuu's existence and had her released from military prison, 31 years after she was first incarcerated by the soldiers and bureaucracy that shot and killed her father; her chronological age at this point was 43, though her body remained physically about small due to the effects of her transformation. This was the first time she had seen sunlight in over three decades; upon being released, Sukiyuu chose a new name for herself: Hiru which we translate in English as Day.
Try and imagine the outrage: The former government had issued a secrecy order surrounding the Sukiyuu and Tenko Akimura affairs. They sent Sukiyuu to a military prison without her committing any crime whatsoever. Sukiyuu was held there 31 years. When the gag order on the imprisonment of Sukiyuu Akimura expired, the President ordered an investigation of the affair and of General Daozuko. The Prime Minister went to meet Sukiyuu and was horrified to find that the person he thought would be a 43-year-old woman was (physically) a 12-year-old girl.
The Liberal government did make Kita Daozuko stand trial for his crimes against Sukiyuu Akimura, and many other conservative politicians were impeached over the Tenko Akimura affair.
Many conservatives remaining in the government were furious over the release of Sukiyuu Akimura they argued that Sukiyuu represented a clear and present danger to the lives of normal humans. They attempted to pass a bill reinstating Sukiyuu's "Enemy of the State" status. This was defeated.
Day reaches Neyagawa
Day wanted to go somewhere where she would never be found again. Upon her release, the President offered to have her "adopted", but Day refused, insisting on living alone. She decided on Neyagawa, a small town out in the plains area of the country.
Day's House
Day's settlement with the government made her an overnight millionaire. She very quickly bought a brand new mansion to live in, and furnished it. Day spent 31 years living in a prison cell and now wanted a nice house to live out her life.
Learning to live in the world again.
Failing to come to grips with her experiences in the military prison and the violations of her mind and body, Day became a recluse. Her fear became her overweening arbiter of her actions; locked away in her mansion, she was as isolated as she had been in her prison cell, though there was no fear of mistreatment or medical experiments any more.
Then, something happened that made Day start caring about the town she lived in and the people in it. She made a decision that changed her life: she decided to stop hiding in fear and to make the most of her immortality to change things for the better. She would act for her own reasons and for what she believed was right, not what anyone in authority told her.
Day's Guardians
After Day's release, she selects guardians to help her transition into the world. They are people that she deeply cares for and who care for her as if she is their own child. After Day feels her transition into the world is complete, she takes guardians because they make her feel safe and cared for, a feeling that was in short supply when she was younger. As a result, Day's interactions with her guardians are loving, caring, and unhurried. They are similar to a parent/child relationship as well as a spousal relationship without all of the "weirdness".
Rules for Guardians
Day's Guardians are private Guardians and not legal Guardians. Their code of conduct is normally dictated by agreements between Day and her Guardian at the time. In the case where Day's Guardian is a spouse, its usually just a verbal agreement. However, if a given Guardian is salaried, such as the case of Diana Fadal, there is a contract between them stating what the Guardian can or cannot do. The Guardians generally cannot regulate Day like a child. They cannot tell her when she can watch TV, or when she has to be in bed, or make her do chores. They generally are responsible for seeing to the security of her home and person. They can be sued by Day if their deliberate negligence causes Day severe injury, or her house to burn down. Compare this to the relationship of Bruce Wayne and Alfred from Bat Man(tm)
Professor Naota Tomaru
Professor Naota Tomaru chronologically is the first guardian
that is
covered here. Naota is a widower, having lost his daughter
and wife in a plane crash. After Day entered the
world, she began taking classes at a local college. Naota was
one of her professors, being responsible for running many of the
classes that she was taking, including English and English culture.
Through the many classes that Day has taken with him, she
feels at ease around him, and their comfort and student/teacher bond
lead to a more intimate and personal bond outside of the classroom.
When Day first went home with him, she noticed that he had
kept his daughter's room as it was before the accident. He
provided her with that room, comfort, guardianship, and love, and in
return, she stayed with him and took care of him until the day that he
died.
Doctor Ryouji Nagoda
Doctor Ryouji Nagoda is Day's second guardian covered here, and his guardianship of Day occurs after Naota's death. He meets Day through his medical practice, becoming her trusted personal physician. During the time of his guardianship, he is the only person other than Day who can even fathom how Day's body works. Their relationship is a bit less "warm" than Day's relationship with Naota, but he still cares for her and takes care of her. Unlike Naota, he does not want to die in the care of Day. As he ages, he becomes obsessed with the thought that Day "discarded" Naota when he no longer suited her, and as such, he breaks off his relationship with Day shortly before his death, not wanting to become a "victim" of Day.
Miss Diana Fadal
The care of the mansion is a big duty, and as Day became more
involved in activities in the community, she found herself a
housekeeper. Miss Diana is a former public school teacher who was
fired because of internal politics at her school. Diana and Day have
become very close, and she has helped Day overcome much of her
distrust of people over time.
Diana does act as a teacher figure to Day, though there is no hard and fast schedule and "classes" are at Day's request only. She has also become a sort of mother figure in some ways, something which Day's early life conspicuously lacked. Diana provides much-needed emotional support and guidance to Day; Kale, though her husband, is younger and still acts like a teenager at times, and Diana's experience and level-headedness are an important counterpoint. She is one of the few people Day feels truly safe with.
Day sometimes roleplays scenes from the childhood she wished she had with Diana, which at times mean she asks Diana to play the role of "disciplinarian." This reflects a need for structure and order on Day's part, and Diana is willing to oblige her. Oftentimes Diana can relax and soothe Day merely by being physically present and available.
Kale Tanaka
Kale is a young (22 years old) proprietor of an erotic book
and
video shop. He intended for it to be a temporary job until he could
get back on his feet. Kale is intelligent and college-educated, and
he owns the shop; however, he is still somewhat immature. Kale's shop
is more of a flowery romantic book store with a sexual focus rather
than a hardcore pornography distributor. Most of his fictional books
and videos end in happy couples (some even end in weddings). Kale
himself hopes to marry "a beautiful
beach bimbo with large
breasts" and does not initially find Day
attractive at all.
Kale lets Day do as she wishes in the shop because she singlehandedly
keeps his business alive.
The Layout of Kale's shop
Kale's shop is a converted old house. It has two main floors. The first floor is the area where Kale keeps merchandise (books and videos) for rent or sale. The second floor is made of private viewing areas for customers who are willing to pay a small fee for the private and secure viewing of videos. Day has been given her own quarters and has furnished them with a bed and curtains.
Kale's moral compass
Kale has a rather clearly defined set of morals when it comes to his shop. He does not tolerate and will not supply any material that violates his personal principles. He refuses to stock group sex or homosexual-themed material, for example.
When Day first entered Kale's shop, he did not want to allow her in. He attempted to usher her out of his shop and offered to help her find her parents. To gain entry, Day presented three forms of authentication proving her of adult age: Her civilian ID card, her police badge...and a loaded .45 caliber pistol concealed in her tan overcoat.
Day's confusing appearance
Day doesn't age, but when Day's transformation did cause "growth" to happen. Day is very short, and cute, but her body has the breast and hip development adults do. She has an adult "final form" and this is it. She has a young face, but a small body that is toned, and somewhat muscular with reasonable bulk like someone who runs on a treadmill. While she was infected with the cells at 12, she looks more 13, or 14 somewhat. Day has C-cup breasts, and a "lady-six-pack". This is sometimes associated with pituitary dwarfism or Acromegaly. Day does not have Acromegaly, or the deformaties associated with Acromegaly. Everything is in proper proportion just smaller.
Day's sources of Income
Day receives a small retirement check from the Army, and she receives a salary from the police department plus overtime (time and a half/danger pay).
The Bank
"This institution is at your disposal, Miss Day, should you have a fiscal crisis." That was what the President of Neyagawa's Bank says to Day whenever she makes a substantial withdrawal. Day amasses quite a fortune. Having no Health Insurance bills to be paid, and no income taxes, has made her a wealthy woman when combined with her military pension and the massive settlement she won.
How Day is treated in town
Many people have seen Day kill criminals who posed clear and present danger to herself and others. They have seen her shed automatic weapons fire like raindrops and enter burning buildings, then emerge unscathed with the victims. Many of the adults in the town, as time goes on, remember Day from their childhoods. People are especially polite to her, both because of her near-invincibility and because of the things she has done for the town.
Day and the pursuit of Happiness
After her release from the prison, Day was haunted by the ghosts of her past. She has come to terms with her immortality, especially one troubling aspect of it: for as long as she lives she will appear to be 12 years old (albeit unusually well-developed for a teenager). This does not stop her from living life to the fullest, however.
The Mayor and other Senior Elders
Day is not an official member of the city council. Her word is respected and listened to by the Elders, but no more than that. The Elders are conservative and somewhat backward, Day and the elders do not always agree on social issues, but she very rarely voices her concerns as she simply does not care about most of the points of contention. The Elders of the city consider Kale's shop to be an unsightly blot on their town, for example. However, they won't put Kale out of business, and they don't mind that Day is Kale's best customer. They DO mind other people besides Day going to Kale's shop as they feel it is immoral and destroys families...
The Police Station
Day takes orders from the chief of police, who is in charge of all officers in Neyagawa. She is usually sent into "hot zones," places too dangerous for ordinary humans, because of her great strength and virtual invulnerability. Because of her stature, she is often the target of good-natured teasing amongst her peers.Day's first encounter with the police was in preventing a crime from being committed; specifically, against herself. Day was assaulted by a mugger who wanted the money in her purse. She attempted to reason with him but he became violent; outraged, she beat him to a pulp, breaking his jaw and most of his ribs with a power that had lain dormant since her father died. She was cleared of any wrongdoing as the law saw her actions as self-defense, but the police were completely at a loss to explain how one 12-year-old girl did as much damage as 5 adult men with blunt weapons... Only to find she was a small ultra strong dwarf when examining her closely.
In her carreer as a police officer, Day would throw her sparing partners two and three times her size. accross the room. A few times she was censured for severely injuring her co workers at the station during sparing matches.
Fang
Fang is Day's Alter-Model, sent by a secret wing of the military to retrieve Day for them. He is not based on a human as Day is, and so acts more like a machine then a human, addressing Day by serial number instead of by name. Fang is more powerful than day but somewhat slower and far less experienced a fighter.
The Kale/Fang Merger
When Fang first appears on the scene, he confronts Day and demands her surrender. After Day refuses to comply, a violent altercation ensues. This brutal fight attracts the attention of Day's fellow policemen, who advance on Fang wielding shotguns and attempt to kill the creature. Day and Fang's exceptional speed and defense mean that the shotgun rounds do not have much effect, but by this time the fight has attracted the attention of other citizens, including that of Kale.
When Fang changes into a gel-like mass of ooze and rushes up at Day in an attempt to envelop her, Kale pushes Day out of the way, and the grayish silver substance envelops him instead. The result is a super-powerful version of Kale, with Kale's personality and appearance, but all of Fang's knowledge of the secret government project that created Day. After the merger, Kale does address Day as Sukiyuu privately.
Kale's merger with Fang lead to several changes in his appearance. Fang stood over seven feet tall, a giant by most standards. When Kale and Fang became one, Kale gained nearly a foot in height, stopping at about 6 feet, 8 inches. His black hair ran silver, and his formerly blue eyes became black all over with white pupils.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Q: Can Day eat?
A: Yes, Day can extract needed materials from organic matter. -
Q: What kind of targeting systems can Day employ?
A: Day's targeting system is the classic setup for cybernetic organisms, a la the Terminator. She possesses traditional target locking, bio-scanners, infrared and ultraviolet sensors, radio frequency detectors, and many other target locking systems. -
Q: Can Day breathe in space?
A: Yes, Day is not an organic being and does not require oxygen or surface pressure to live. -
Q: What will destroy Day?
A: An explosion strong enough to completely disrupt her atomic structure, or a foreign substance injected in her to alter it by chemical reaction. Nothing short of a nuclear bomb, in simple terms. -
Q: Does Day have a soul or is she just a machine?
A: Day has a human soul; she feels emotions just like humans, but her physical enhancements make her far more intelligent. Her traumatic experiences and subsequent distrust of people make her seem distant and cold to most people. -
Q: Why is Day called "Day"?
A: Sukiyuu calls herself Day because prior to being released from military prison she was denied any exposure to the outside world. Her emergence from the military prison was the first time she had seen sunlight in over thirty years. -
Q: Why does Day not wear a standard police uniform or carry a sidearm?
A: Mostly because no uniform sizes fit her. She believes she would be too obvious in uniform, and even be ridiculed for wearing one. She does not carry a sidearm because she is capable of forming any blunt or stabbing weapon she pleases from her own body. -
Q: Does Day experience pain when she is injured?
A: Yes, she does, and it depends on the extent of the injury. -
Q: Is Day the "real" Sukiyuu Akimura, or a machine impersonating her? The transformation process killed all the male soldiers.
A: I hate the semantics of this question because it reminds me too much of Final Fantasy VII. The short answer is yes, Day is the real Sukiyuu Akimura.
Technical Issues
Here is how Day operates. Day is composed of millions upon millions of tiny robots. The robots are much smaller than human cells. The robots also are capable of utilizing a variety of power sources, among them are sunlight, organic compounds, and direct or indirect current. (It is nearly impossible to electrocute Day as she will simply absorb the current.) Day also has an electronic reproduction of her Human DNA at her disposal. This combined with her mental image of herself decides her physical appearance. There are, however, no organic components of Sukiyuu's original body; the machines consumed all of it and recorded all data about her biological and mental makeup. Day can never be truly human again for this reason; the organic material simply does not exist anymore.
Although Day does have all the same organs and structures of a normal human being, these are composed of nanoprobes and many are only there for "appearance." For example, her heart does not beat, but instead continuously cycles nanoprobe "blood" through her system like a turbine...though this is unnecessary as the probes are programmed to circulate independently. Her lungs also appear to work normally, but again, she can survive without breathing and can shut them down at will. She produces no waste except heat and a few excess gases (mostly carbon dioxide and molecular nitrogen). While she can and does eat, her stomach is simply a holding area for the nanoprobes to convert the food directly to energy.
Day has amazing regenerative powers and can restore any part of her body within seconds or minutes. However, some things can slow down this process, specifically having a foreign object in the wound site. This is actually a safety measure, as it gives Day time to remove the offending object. If the foreign body is left inside long enough, Day's flesh will simply regrow around it; eventually the nanoprobes will disassemble the object for their own use, but it takes far longer than simply regenerating a new organ in the absence of foreign objects.
Day's solid form is something of an illusion; she is actually a coherent swarm of nanoprobes, though these are organized into analogues of her original body parts and organs. As a result, she can control a part of herself that becomes severed, and reattach it at any time. Even if she is cut to pieces, they will attract one another and reform, and she will be none the worse for the wear. This does not extend to her clothing, however; Day has exited burning buildings naked and on fire, herself unharmed but her clothes cindered.
Day's upgrade, care of Fang
After the Kale and Fang Merger, Day found that with a human mind, Fang was far superior to her. To remedy this situation, Day voluntarily became one with Kale/Fang for a short time in the privacy of her home. This resulted in Day's "firmware" being updated to par with Fang.
Pain Receptors
Both Shifters have pain receptors. They feel pain based on damage done to the nanoprobes.

To better illustrate the point, I will explain in more detail the situation. General Kita Daozuko was the principal proponent of the project to create invincible soldiers being implemented by Tenko Akimura. Daozuko was disturbed by the deaths of the soldiers who underwent Tenko Akimura's procedure and feared for his own career. General Daozuko decided to cover the whole thing up. He had Tenko Akimura shot by soldiers under his command who were intentionally dressed in special operations garb. Upon discovering Sukiyuu, the soldiers opened fire on her. Ammunition having proved ineffective, Sukiyuu slaughtered the killers that left her father a bullet-riddled heap on the ground.
